Chairman of the Board: Dr. William Farrett

Dr. Farrett graduated second in his class with multiple honors from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA in 1995. Prior to attending Temple University, Dr. Farrett graduated from New York University with a B.A. cum laude in three years. Dr. Farrett successfully completed a reconstructive surgical residency at Presbyterian/St Lukes (Highlands) from 1995 to 1998. He continues to be an active attending and member of the Residency Committee at Highlands/PSL residency program. He is part-time faculty in the Department of Surgery at Presbyterian/St Lukes in Denver.
Dr. Farrett began private practice in Englewood, Colorado and now practices in Lone Tree, Colorado and Parker, Colorado. In addition, he services satellite clinics in Denver and Leadville, Colorado. Dr. Farrett is Board Certified in Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
Dr. Farrett has lectured to diverse audiences and authored multiple papers regarding innovative care of the lower extremities. He is currently coordinating a multi-centered study regarding advanced treatment of plantar fasciitis. Dr. Farrett is Co-Founder of the Highlands Foot and Ankle Institute with Drs. Paul Stone and Matthew Paden.
Dr. Farrett lives in Parker and Leadville, Colorado with Rachel, Tabor, and Carson. He enjoys skiing, mountain biking, and endurance sports. He is an avid runner who has completed the Leadville 100 mile foot race twice and multiple 50 mile foot races.

Vice President and Educational Director: Dr. Paul Stone |
Paul received his B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Michigan, graduated Cum Laude in 1978. He received his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine, a Masters in Business Administration from University of Phoenix in 1992. Following his graduation from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago in 1982, Paul completed a surgical residency program in Advanced Foot and Ankle Surgery from Highlands Center Hospital in Denver Colorado.
Paul is Board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, American Board of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine, and the American Academy of Pain Management. He has served as a Licensure examiner for the State of Colorado Podiatry Board, and an oral examiner for the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the American Board of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine board certification examinations.
Dr. Stone is in private practice since 1984. Since 2001 his has been a partner in an orthopedic sub-specialty group Advanced Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Specialists, P.C. in Denver and Lone Tree, Colorado. Dr. Stone is involved with the Highlands PSL Surgical Residency program as an attending physician, is the Director of Research, and directs the literature review journal club each Monday with the residents.
Dr. Stone enjoys teaching, skiing, hiking, and playing golf. He is married to Gail and has two sons, Michael and Mark.
Vice President: Dr. Matthew Paden |

Dr. Matthew Paden was born and raised in Colorado. His passion revolves around his family, profession, and all things Colorado. He received a BS degree in biology from the University of Maryland in 1985. After a year of graduate study in Anatomy, he moved to San Francisco to pursue podiatric medicine. Dr. Paden graduated from California College of PodiatricMedicine in 1991. During his time at school, he excelled in all subjects graduating in the top 10% of his class and receiving Pi-Delta honors.
Dr. Paden eventually moved back to Colorado to complete his two year surgical residency training at Vencor Hospital (Highlands). Following residency he completed a 1 year fellowship in Diabetic Foot at the Northern California Center for the Diabetic and Insensitive Foot.
Dr. Paden has been in practice since 1994. He has offices in Wheat Ridge, Golden, and Evergreen. His practice focuses on advanced foot and ankle surgery, sports medicine, diabetic foot care, and general podiatric foot care. He is board certified in Foot Surgery, as well as, Reconstructive Rear foot and Ankle Surgery from the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He is a Fellow in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He has been involved with the Highlands residency program since returning to Colorado. His first position was Externship Director from 1994 until 2003. He developed the residency clinic at High Street in 1996 and remained the Clinic Director until 2003.
Dr. Paden then became the Residency Director in 2004 and is currently holding that position today. Along with Dr’s Farrett and Stone, Dr. Paden founded the Highlands Institute, and serves as Vice President of the organization. During this time, Dr. Paden has written numerous articles, a text book chapter on limb salvage, and has lectured at state and national conferences. Dr. Paden lives in Golden with his wife Barbara and son Hunter. He enjoys skiing, rock climbing, alpine climbing, fly fishing, surfing, and hiking with his family.

Secretary: Brett Sachs |
Dr. Brett Sachs earned his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1994. After his undergraduate studies, he attended the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine where he graduated top of his class and was a member of the Pi Delta National Podiatry Honor Society. Dr. Sachs completed his surgical training in Foot and Ankle Reconstruction at Presbyterian- St. Luke’s Medical Center (Highlands) in Denver, Colorado in 2001.
During his residency, Dr. Sachs served as chief podiatric surgical resident. Dr. Sachs completed additional training at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco, California specializing in trauma. His training in the management and treatment of the foot and ankle is comprehensive. Dr. Sachs has been practicing podiatric medicine since 2001 and currently has offices in Wheat Ridge, Evergreen, and Conifer. During his practice, Dr. Sachs has given several lectures across the country on various medical topics.
Dr. Sachs’ areas of particular interest are in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, trauma, and sports medicine. He is a board qualified member in foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is an Associate of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Dr. Sachs has been involved with the residency program since graduating in 2001. He has been an attending physician and was named X-ray conference director in 2004.
Dr. Sachs is also on staff on several hospitals in the Denver metro area. In addition, Dr. Sachs has been a chapter editor for the Compendium of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in 2005and 2006. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors and serves as Secretary for the Highlands Institute. Dr. Sachs was born and raised in the Washington DC area. He enjoys skiing, golf, mountain biking, and hiking. Dr. Sachs currently lives in the Denver metro area.
